ABOUT THE 3D PRINTED MATERIALS WE USE

Brass

brass-gold-plated brass-polished brass-raw

Gold plated brass matches the look of genuine gold.  Polished brass is a rich shiny yellow color.  Both undergo thorough hand polishing for an even lustrous finish.  Raw brass has an antique appearance, with a rough surface and a bit of tarnishing.
As with all brass, our polished and raw options will tarnish over time and may require polishing.

Note: For some people, wearing brass jewelry will leave a temporary light green shadow on their skin. Not wearing the jewelry during times when your hands are wet will greatly reduce this.  If it does occur, simply remove the jewelry and wash your skin with warm water and soap.  (Postings on line recommend applying a layer of clear nail polish to the parts of the piece that come in contact with your skin.  Having not tried this at Sloris, we can’t speak to the influence on the appearance of the jewelry or its efficacy.)

Bronze

bronze-polished bronze-raw
Bronze is a vibrant chestnut color with very faint accents of silver marbling which generates one of a kind pieces.  Polished bronze goes through considerable hand polishing for a glossy finish.  Raw bronze has a rustic matte look with a rough surface.
Like all bronze, our polished and raw offerings will tarnish over time, and may arrive with mild tarnishing.  This can be quickly rectified with a bit of polishing.

‘Sintilating’ Plastic

plastic black plastic white plastic-coral-red plastic-royal-blue-polished plastic-violet-purple-polished plastic white polished
Named for the process in which a bed of Nylon powder is sintered by laser, layer by layer, solidifying the powder as it progresses (the manufacturer calls it ‘strong and flexible plastic’ but that sounds like the description of a phony contortionist or substantial and versatile credit).
This is not your momma’s plastic.  Unpolished white and black pieces are slightly rough.  The layered process of the printing often creates a look similar to that of wood grain.  Overall, it has a likeness to unpolished or polished soap stone.
Available in black, white, polished white, polished coral red, polished violet purple, polished hot pink and polished royal blue.
This material is dishwasher safe, not watertight, not recyclable, and not food safe. It is heatproof to 80C/176F degrees. Higher temperatures may significantly change material properties.

Stainless Steel

3D printed stainless steel items have a lightly dimpled surface.  Our stainless steel is infused with a bronze content of up to 30%, which gives some stainless steel objects a slightly bronze hue.  There may be a small difference in color between your individual print and the piece pictured.  Bronze and gold plated stainless steel items are a bit less glossy than pure bronze or gold plated brass.
This material is watertight, is dishwasher safe, not recyclable, and not food safe. It is heatproof to 831C/1528F degrees. Higher temperatures may significantly change material properties.

Sterling Silver

silver-premium silver polished silver-raw
Sterling Silver is available in raw, polished, and premium finishes.  Raw silver is mechanically polished so it may show print lines and have a rougher surface texture.  Polished silver is lightly hand polished to achieve a smooth finish but might retain some surface texture.  Premium silver is very shiny due to being well polished by hand.
